That what I call it, but you wouldn’t agree
But not that it matters cause you’ll never listen to me
But what I say isn’t as important as opening your mind
Compared to whether you even listen, any agreement you might find
The biggest purveyors of this eye-covering, deafness of the ear
Are those that need to listen and even more than others to hear
Those would be politicians and religions up front
Who’s self-righteousness is most absolutely blunt
Are you so firm in your view of the world,
That nothing said by others could give any yield?
Is it that you are so firmly entrenched in your mind,
That any good from disparity you know you’ll not find?
Is it your resolution to be absolutely correct,
That a slight bit of doubt, may cause in your world a defect?
A flaw in your opinion, that which your group instills
because that outside view might cause fear and chills?
What a weak self-image you must contain,
To believe your world might collapse from distain
That a dangerous change in your rules and edicts,
Could result from just hearing any such clear defects
When did we become such big chickenshits
Afraid of conflicting knowledge, have a deathly fear of it
That we close the doors on any outside view
Because we’re scared of the damage it may do?
Our stateside politicians hold themselves in a bubble
Effectively blocking out any sign of trouble
Negating the truth by holding it away
And denying it’s existence in an offhand way
And nearly all religions that have set rules and guides
Claim old books and traditions behind which to hide
Chant their way past universal truth all around
And let it drop and stagnate while they pray on the ground
Open your discussion and give your rituals some light
Just because it’s outside doesn’t mean “Dark as night”
Stop cowering behind your rules or religious rights
And embrace the world in it’s very real lights
